I am trying to put together three JBL 4675A systems for my three front channels. I have two and the horn for the third but I still need the LF for the third. The JBL model number for the LF portion of this system is 4648 I believe. I have had a heck of a time finding one of these.

I have found someone nearby that has four cabinets for sale without the drivers but they are part number 4508A and they came from 4648A packages. The cabinets for my systems are 4508. There is a dimensional difference in the size. I figured if I did buy these enclosures that I could find drivers pretty easily and have my third channel. I called JBL and they said there wouldn't be a sound difference but the guy was eager to get off of the phone and answered very quickly. I don't believe that two different cabinets of a different size with the same drivers in them could produce the same sound. Then I figured I could change all three of my channels to these new 4508A cabinets since I have to buy the lot of four anyways. Does anybody here see a problem with this? In other words my 4675A's would have 4508A cabinets instead of 4508's. Why did they change the size of the cabinet and the part numbers? Thanks.

10-12 years ago there were minor changes to the case size to allow more speakers on a trailer. I think you will find the cubic volume of the two boxes to be similar if not identical. (Think about ir, if 3 cartons are one inch too big, then you can only put two across.)Louis

I would not worry in the least about having a mix of 4508 and 4508A cabinents. The difference in drivers are likely the 2225 versus the 2226...they are definitely different in many respects but both are excellent...I prefer the 2226, myself.
