Cleaner - Kelmar Film Cleaner (No model number visible from where I looked, I think Kelmar only makes the one model.
Media Pads - Kelmar Media Pads
Cleaner - FilmGuard

Okay, so two prints during cleaning have come off white on the edges. During cleaning, the edges run black onto the media pads as is common for every print. However, Hangover and Inglourious Basterds has been coming off with a thick layer of black and a thick layer of white. It starts off on both the base and the emulsion. Around the first reel, the white and black is constant for only the base side of the film, not the emulsion side.

Any ideas what causes this? Nothing has changed in terms of the way the cleaner is thread or the FilmGuard is applied or the media pads used. Is this damaging to anything?

Were these prints used? Perhaps white out was used to mark the edges at reel changes?

No, Inglourious Basterds was brand new. Hangover hadn't been cleaned for about 9 weeks though, we ran out of FilmGuard and our third party company isn't capable of doing its job right and getting us what we need when we need it.

The only thing that is different is that it didn't start happening until we got the new bottle of FilmGuard.

Sorry for the delayed response and double post.

While I was taking the pictures to post, I noticed a glittery effect on the media pads, which convinced me to double check our old school ORC brains. The film was picking up tons of dirt and tiny metal shavings from the brain and the white residue was a jammed roller on the brain that was causing the film to shave the roller on the edges and perforations. The media pads have been cleaning like normal since replacement of the brain.
