Yesterday, I noticed the sound drum on one of my
DTS readers was "dragging" slightly. Not enough
to damage the film, or cause timecode errors long
enough to dump to analog, but it's just not
turning as freely as all my other readers.

It seems to be slightly 'gummed up'.

It has one of those "do not adjust" stickers
on the bracket so I'm curious- -
Can that bracket that supports the axle the
DTS sound drum turns on be dissassembeled
so I can clean and/or lube as necessary
without throwing the reader out of alignment?

right under that little sticker you aren't suppose to remove is a flat had screw. That screw controls the alignment of the reader. You would need to remove it to take it apart. My experience is that once you move that screw the reader will never be quite the same again, it takes time to tweak it in so that it reads on all film prints again (it'll be perfect on one and might have troubles on the next). Gordon knows quite a bit about working on them. He'd have some good pointers on working on it for sure.

Remember that there is a small vertical allen set screw on that adjustment screw -- the screw head is on the underside of things, so it's easy to miss. Anyhow, don't try turning the adjustment screw without loosening the setscrew...
