Hi Everyone,

Got another question for you all. I installed a Kelmar Film Cleaner on one of our platters yesterday. Today was the first time I ran a print through it with Film Guard and Film-Tech media pads.

The pads were soaked the night before and when the print ran black splotches appeared on the print. They were vertical, almost like the streaking you usually get when you run FG for the first time, but they appeared black on screen and looked like intermittent scratches.

I'm absolutely sure the FG didn't cause this, but I'd love to know what did. The print hasn't been run since, but looking at the print while it was taking up, none of the scratch-like splotchy marks showed up. They were not on the emulsion, only the base side.

I know BVI prints are often Photo Guarded(Rejuvenated) when they come in used from the US, but this is a new print, so I'm out of ideas.

Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this? Should I just run the print through the pads again and see what happens?

Are you sure it's not ScotchGuarded? That is almost exactly what would happen. If so, run the next show on new dry pads to get the FilmGuard off.

FG cannot properly adhear to the print with scotchgaurd, and instead beads up in the manor you described.

I was pretty sure the print wasn't Photo/Scotch guarded, as it usually indicates this on the box the print came in. I'll run it through dry pads today.

I ran the print this morning and bypassed the cleaner to see if the beading had disappeared. It has, and is no longer showing on screen. I was told by the projectionist who made up the print that it was new, but on looking in the box discovered that this was not the case. The print had been photo-guarded.

The cleaner and FG is working wonders on all my other prints.
