I am looking for a source for a commercially made (in quantity) and CSA approved ceiling potlight for R40 lamps.
They are a dime a dozen but in the past we used a one from Prescolite that had a 12" tall black coilbaffle from the ceiling trim to the face of the lamp
This guaranteed that unless one looked straight up at the ceiling the lights did not produce any glare or ceiling distraction
Regrettably it is no longer available and I cannot seem to find a replacement from Litolier Halo
any links would be appreciated

Gord, in the US the federal Energy Policy Act of 1992 outlawed a long list of lamps, including the R40. Hopefully Canada has not been as short-sighted.

Inasmuch as fixture manufacturers tend to design around available lamps, R40 ceiling cans may be hard to find as time passes.

Huh? I've never heard this. We have R40's in all our auditoriums, even the 2 built in 1995. I just bought a case of R40 120w bulbs last summer from a local vendor: Voss Lighting

Some quick googling sez that R40 120W lamps are still available, but not legal to sell in Calif, Oregon, Washington, and Rhode Island. Maybe also Vermont and Massachusetts.

The bulbs are not the issue R40 is available in a dimmable LED or CFL but the fixture to meet our requirements is what we can't find
