I've got a 35mm print (indian film) that leaves a white powdery residue on all the rollers every time it is played. I clean it off, but it comes right back every time. I thought that maybe somebody before us had used white out on it to make reel breaks and that was coming off on the rollers, but can't find any on the film.

Anybody else have this happen before? What the heck is it? I can't figure it out.

I've had an issue with a sort of sticky (almost greasy feeling), mysterious fine white powder that occasionally appears in the projector en-mass and can get on the film. I find it also builds up on the brain.

I'm pretty sure it's ashes from a moth that flew into the film trap. lol

If that's what it is, running the film through a film cleaner should do it.

I went on a service call to an 8plex in my neighboring state which contain PR-1060's. One machine was totally covered in "snow" - white film dust everywhere.

The intermittent shoes were not aligned right with the sprocket and the inboard part of the shoes was actually shaving and sharpening the outside edge of the outboard sprocket teeth to where that surface of the teeth were razor sharp..

..and this sharp edge was actually shaving out the sprocketholes...

After I rebuilt the trap and gate assembly and a new sprocket, I got rid of the "snowstorm" that this machine was creating.
