Hi All

they say not to use film xenons in the NEC 1600 but can we do the reverse and use the ushio DXL 40 SCN in a film lamphouse of the same wattage?

since we are only getting 1500 hrs from the digital NEC we could make up some more hours burning it in a film lamphouse.

any comments ?

Does the Ushio DXL cross reference to a lamp that fits your film lamphouse? If not the arc may not be in the correct place in your reflector. Or it may not physically fit. I'm not familiar with the NEC but I'd start with trying to cross the DXL to a film series and go from there.
We have a Barco DP100 and a Strong lamphouse for film that both could (and have) use(d) a Christie CXL60.

What I was doing with the LTIX-3000w HEHS bulbs also recommended with the NEC-1600's: shoving them in consoles and running them as 2500w bulbs with the modification for the horizontal short bulb usage. Works pretty slick, light looks good and the film is staying cool to the touch when leaving the trap assembly.

The Digital Lamps are considered to have a better hot spot and making them more light efficient but less operational hours. In the Cinemeccanica and Kinoton D-Cinema projectors you CAN actually use film lamps instead of Digital lamps if you wish.

Who ever told you you can't use filum lamps in the 1600 doesn't know filum from digital! All Osram short type cinema lamps are approved by NEC to go in the 1600/2000 projectors. it is one of my selling points of these projectors. You should never need anything but a filum lamp if you are running 2-D unless you are operating near the size limits which for the 2000 is 55 feet.
