the lateral guide rollers seem to be set a little too narrow on my FP20's. when film is in the gate, they are pushed a bit out and at an angle, and there is some shedding presumably from being set too narrow. I bought the Lavezzi stainless steel alignment film, and am about to have at it. Tips? Advice?

The FP20/30 style gates pinch the film and are designed to accommodate the width of the film. Make sure your ceramic discs are seated properly. They should "click" into position and may be removed, without tools by merely pulling on them.

Also, make sure that they all spring out/in freely...if they don't then you will need to remove the pistons/springs and lubricate.

correct me if i'm misreading, but so long as they are moving freely, and are not pushed out to the end of their travel with film in the gate they are fine? in other words, they can pinch the film a bit and not do an unnecessary amount of damage?

Yes....all 4 ceramic discs should spring in/out freely. If they are doing they, they should be fine.
