Hello, to all. I have been a projectionist for over 35 years started back in the day with carbon arc lamps, to twins and multiplexes, and finally wound up in an Imax Dome theater.Thanks to Brad for your help getting password corrected.

Welcome to FT. There are lots of us here who started back in the carbon arc days. Some are still working the trade but others like me still have it in our blood.

Thanks for the welcome Rick, Is definitely in my blood as my uncle,father and brother were all projectionist at one time and my brother is still in it part time.

There's an Egypt in New Jersey? Well, welcome Joseph. I also started back in the day with carbon arcs. Not only was there no xenon there was no CinemaScope, stereo surround sound or 3D. I have retired but am attempting to return to the business I love. There's a good group here and they're more than willing to offer their advise or just chat.

Hi Robert, It's New Egypt, but I'm really in Jackson the home of Six Flags Great Adventure. Did you every run film with I think its called varible density track?

Yes, I've run films with variable density and variable area tracks. I've also run CinemaScope films with 4 track magnetic sound run through a "penthouse" reader.

For history's sake: Do any of us remember of one film that was printed on a "Fox hole" base, but was optical only?

"Snow White and the Three Stooges" .. reels wrapped in blue (scope-narrow tooth) bands, not in black (scope-mag/optical) or red (scope-optical) for a scope movie.

Still run a B&W "Coming Attractions" density track on red led readers occasionally. Plenty of level too as its a hot track.

I've only run one variable-density film -- I think it was a Three Stooges short, if memory serves. Not sure though. I remember racing downstairs with the first reel to ask the then-owner if that weird-looking soundtrack would work.

I've run a bunch of variable density tracks, the most recent was a reprint of a 3 Stooges. The track was so thin (nearly clear) that I had serious concerns about whether it would play at all but it played OK. This was on BACP red.

One of the first theaters I worked ran Spanish movies, I think that's where I first saw variable density track. And later ran Midnite shows with 3 stooges and abbott and costello outakes.With variable density tracks. They where almost clear.
