I recently purchased 5 - QSC DCA 1622 amps to replace some of my other amps which are not being utilized in the way they are intended to.

These are my current set-ups:

Room #1: (room size 36' (w) x 70') Dolby CP650 SR, amps-QSC 1400 x 3, L/Ctr/R speakers are EV 606dw, sub JBL 4642a x2, surrounds JBL 8340 x 6

Room #2: (room size 34' (w) x 70') Dolby CP650 SR, amps-QSC USA 900 x 2 (surrounds QSC RMX-850), L/Ctr/R speakers are EV 606dw, sub EV TL880d, surrounds JBL 8330 x 6

Room #3(small room 30' (w) x 33'): Smart ModIIc, amps QSC RMX-850 x 3, L/Ctr/R Altec VOTT model ??, Sub JBL 4518, surrounds Smart CS-2 x 4

Room #4 (small room 25'(w) x 33'):Smart ModIIc, amps none yet-will use whatever is left/recommended, L/Ctr/R JBL 4647 w/ 2445j horns, Sub JBL 4645b, surrounds Smart CS-2 x 4

DCA 1622-300 watts 8 ohms
RMX 850-185 watts 8 ohms
USA 900-270 watts 8 ohms
1400-200 watts 8 ohms

From reading earlier posts on these amps the DCA are thought to be the best then the 1400's.

Which amps should I keep?

The USA and 1400 are more or less the same inside.

These are both the oldest of the list so perhaps they should be the first to go, but neither amp has a bad service record so I don't get the drama.

Save it for Gromes, McGohan (sp)or Fraizer amps.

I recall some time ago a QSC rep posted on this forum that the RMX series were not at all designed for cinema use.

I totally agree. The majority of our amps are 1400's and there service record is great. Also when there is a issue they are repairable in house if i have time or locally if I don't. I would use the DCA's to replace any of the amps but and keep the others for spares.

Besides covers on trimmers, what makes an amplifier not suitable for cinema?

RMX series is not recommended because there isn't any crossover modules that make it functional for a typical cinema.

The RMX's work fine if you are using passive cross overs.

there should be no difference in using them with biamp triamp with standard external crossovers as with using them with passive
the only issue is the plug in modules will not work
