what causes EXTREME shedding of a print? everything seems fine with the projector. its a simplex xl

If it is flaky, white or light colored stuff it might be coming from the emulsion. Something might be abrading the surface of the print.

If it is stringy, it might be shavings from the edges of the print as one of the rollers or guides is misaligned.

It is possible that the damage was done before you played the print and what you are seeing is left over from that.

Definitely check and double check the alignment of all your rollers, sprockets and film guides. Double check the alignment of your film trap. Double check the tension of your film trap.

Clean the projector thoroughly and play a piece of film which you know to be good. If the problem occurs again, suspect the projector.

Play the problematic film in a projector which you know to be good. Clean it thoroughly with a film cleaner. Using FilmGuard would help. If the problem continues in a known-good projector suspect damage to the film.
