Hello all,

Does anyone have a list or know where to find one that lists all the 70mm film formats for released 70mm films? I'm just concerned with 6-track mag prints.

These 70mm prints are my main concern, oh and we are running a loaded Cp200

Lawrence of Arabia 1989 version, format 41?
Spartacus 1991 version, format 41?
Untouchables, 1987, format 42?
Star Trek 6: Undiscovered Country, 1991, format 43 w/SS
Baraka, 1992 print, format 43 w/SS?
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, 1968 print, format 40?

plus these short Canadian films:

format 40 for all ?

A place to Stand, 1967
Multiple Man, 1968
Where the North Begins, 1971
Festival, 1971
Seasons in the mind, 1971

an 70mm trailers?

The Fly 1986, Frantic 1988

Any help would be great!

Oh this is regarding a 70mm film festival happening Sept. 24-26th in Gatineau, Quebec (near Ottawa)

Lawrence of Arabia 1989 version, format 42 with SR cards installed if it is the toronto stored print (tones and noise use sparticus)
Spartacus 1991 version, format 42
Untouchables, 1987, format 42

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, 1968 print, format 40 (depending on the noise level you may want to roll off the highs or put the 22 into cleaner mode)

all of these are format 40

I don't recall on Spartacus but Lawrence in its "restored" form was format 43 (stereo surround). I think the Spartacus restoration also went with format 43. Note, format 43 prints are backwards compatible with format 42.

Here's my two cents... Several sources, including Dolby's records and correspondence with restoration producer Robert Harris, indicate the '89* "Lawrence" and '91 "Spartacus" were Format 42. (Harris' '94 restoration of "My Fair Lady" was Format 43.)

* There was a digital remix done for the 2002 re-issue, so those prints might be Format 43.

One question here. How did they achieve Dolby SR playback for magnetic Dolby Stereo on 70mm? Did they replace the cat. 22 cards with 280T or 350T in the CP200 or were the required SR cards added into the Accessory Unit?

You pull the cat. 22's and replace them with cat. 280T's in the CP-200.

Yes, normally the Cat 22s are replaced with Cat 280Ts...However, it is possible to use 363 frames (and I've done it with Panastereo's SR35s too) to offer SR automatically when the appropriate format is dialed up.

Steve, as far as I know, the 363 contains two cat. 300 cards, with the possibility to switch to A, SR or bypass noise reduction. How did you use them? Three of them and all kinds of 35mm/70mm prints entirely processed through them, or really just for 70mm SR?

You would need three of them for all six channels. With the CP200, there are always multiple ways and is installer's preference.

When I did the Library of Congress with Pana SR35s, they were SR only so I have them between the MPU and the Control unit...when non-SR films are played, they are bypassed. They only activate on SR movies.
