I have a DA20 that almost seems is if it is perpetually rebooting itself. The display keeps flashing L c r - over and over again. Rebooting solves the problem for about an hour, whether film is running or not. For the sake of information, the unit is connected to a BACP DSTR-20 reader and a CP200. The switch on the DA20 is set to 7. Analog passes through just fine.

Thoughts?

Joe you seem to have a lot of fun recently :-)

Could possibly be the power supply.
Check the connector for overheating etc.

If possible try swapping the psu with another which you know is working correctly.
The reader you are using also gets it's power from the DA20, if I recall correctly, so the psu could be borderline at power up and falling off as it warms up.

Just a thought.

Hi Joe,

I had the same situation last year.

It will be either the power supply about to die or a bad connection where the DA20 power supply connects with the processor itself. Check the connector as mine was burnt from bad connection,leads are crimped only not soldered.

It could also be a bad joint inside power supply...I resoldered a bunch and has gone O.K. since.

Joe,

Check the Cat 671 dual dsp boards. They have two groups of 8 led's on each board. When you power up the DA20 a red led will light above each group then go out. If an led stays red then there is a problem in the board and this can cause the cat 673 system services board to keep resetting the system.

I call it the P/S. I had one die on me a few years back, but before it died, it was giving me similar issues.

I took out the power supply and it seems to be in good condition, certainly not burned or crispy anywhere. I put everything back together and so far it is working fine. Time will tell, of course.

Joe, if that doesn't work the next thing I would try (if you haven't already) is to pull out and reseat all of the cards.

If you have a GOOD volt meter (by good, I mean reads accurately down to 1/10 of volt)...measure the three power rails on the Cat 670 card (I think it is Cat 670...it is the far left card). There is a Dolby field bulletin that lists the allowable voltage ranges.

Note, I've had a DA20 power supply fail that at first measured okay but if you left your meter on it...you would see the rails slowly go down and eventually, the DA20 would reboot when they went down far enough.

My meter measures down to 1/100th of a volt. It even goes into millivolts. It's crazy-advanced because it's from the future.

It is messing up again. I put in a request for a new power supply.
