We have the following theatre specs for a 5plex that I am working at for an install. We are using Strong Super Highlight II consoles from 2005 era. The management is proposing we use:

Theatre
1 - 3000W
2 - 2000W
3 - 2000W
4 - 1000W
5 - 1000W

Here are the specs for the auditoriums. The screens are everyday ordinary gain no silver or high gain. Do these recommended bulb sizes seem like they will get enough light on the screen?

1000 Watt for theaters 4 and 5 are fine. We have X-90 consoles with the same size screens and easily get 16 in center with 15 on the sides.

Why are you worrying? Just put 1000w in all of them. If 3fl is good enough for 3D...it's good enough for 2D too.

I'd stay with 2k's in the two small houses .. less inventory to worry about.

You got Highlight II's instead of X-90's which is basically a Super Lume-x in console form.

As for the 3k house, drop a technilight reflector in that console and you can run 2k shorts and have more light than the 3k will ever put out.

2000 watts for a 9 foot high screen? That a lot of light for a screen that small. I guess you could power it down.

Not really. I know of a 6plex that has a 65 seat house with a 9 by 18 screen and using an X-90 console with a 2k Christie bulb in it running at 70 amps, gave a good presentation on the screen and not of any hint of being washed out with too much light. Throw was about 40 feet.

After Technicolor 3D certification, I have several houses at over 100 ft/lm. Sharp, bright (very) and not a bit washed out or flicker. Theatre must have some other problem.
