I have a used da-20 that I am hooking up to an Ultra Stereo JS-200. When I set the da-20 to any of the auto digital processor setting all I get is the sub output.

If I select 'auto digital disabled' the interface card leds flash and the sound; all channels, cuts in and out.

If I use 'digital always' I have signal on all of the channels, but that's not a workable solution since it wont fail back to analog.

Any advice as to what I am doing wrong will be greatly appreciated.

It's been a while since I have set up and worked with a DA-20. I think in order for it to work properly with the JS200 you have to put the position switch to the #6. This will disable auto digital but will allow it to revert to a stereo format on the JS200 if the digital drops out and then switches it back when the digital returns. You must use a an automation pulse to put the JS-200 in the digital format or you will have to manually push the button. I think the auto Digital settings are specific to the CP family. Others may be a little more helpful in regards to what your sound is doing.

Set the switch to emulate a CP65.

The subwoofer light only symptom indicates you have a DA20 with the older 611 control card and not a 611A. The difference between the two cards is 611A has bypass relays on all channels and the 611 does not have a bypass relay on the sub.

In auto digital is it waiting for a pulse from the automation to toggle the bypass relays or is it in bypass for another reason?

Auto digital means when it senses SRD it will kick the processor into SRD out of optical analog (usually SR).

Auto digital disabled means it won't kick into digital until the processor is put into digital (either via the front button or an automation).

Do like Sam says and set it to emulate a CP65. There is a multi-position trim knob to turn for that.

The DA20's with the older 611 card do not have auto digital but either way it needs to be set to the CP65 position.

This was the other improvement in the 611A card.

The 611 will do auto digital, but the CP65 must be initially pulsed to digital from show start. From that point any time the SRD track isn't picked up it will revert to SR and then when the SRD track is readable again it will go back to SRD. If the CP65 is set to pulse to SR from show start it will not go into SRD automatically. Don't know if this is the case with the Ultra Stereo though.

Jeremy - That is what "auto digital disabled" is intended to do.

"Auto digital" means it will pull the processor even out of nonsync if it detects SRD.

Ok, so I had some more time to play with this and here is where I am at now.

In auto digital it won't fail back to analog.

In auto digital disabled the card still just flashes the leds/sound. Is it looking for something to get it to stop this behavior?
