It looks like they have some interesting web based training on basic audio concepts. Has anyone here tried it out?

If you work for Dan Tocchini, this training is far and above what was ever required.

not sure about the web based training. I took the course about 20 years ago, and it was very good. I've mentioned the course a couple of times here before, it is well worth the money for anyone serious about sound reinforcement. When I took the class, I was the first cinema guy they had, everyone else were stagehands, roadies and manufacturer reps. I still recommend the hands on course, well worth it.

SynAudCon has been around since the early 1970's. Created by Don Davis, former V.P. of Altec. They have been doing tech seminars predating other "trade groups" setting up their certificate programs. Excellent stuff....

Great class. Kind of depressing for Cinema guys, since the knowledge you gain cannot be put to any practical use in Cinema. It cost money, you know. Louis

Gonna have to disagree with you on that one Louis. Best $1000 bucks spent. It was great knowledge to have before I went to Dolby and Peavey Media Matrix classes years later. Again, a great tool for anyone serious about a career in this industry.

When I started tech work (mid 80's), most of the houses were mono. I was taught by two guys that had retired a couple times and kept coming back. (Bernie Thompson and Rosco Purdue), they said if they opened the auditorium door and they could hear sound, it was working. Needless to say, Rick did a lot of reading those days!

Yes, there are two types of people.

1) People who just do what needs to get done.
2) People who love to learn and have initiative to achieve.
