One of my cleints has... and I am occasionally required to run run this old vintage Cinemeccanica Vic 4 E projector - I get the part about the Simplex E7 stlye oil plunger pump system for daily lubrication (1-2 full pumps on Plunger)of the planetary gears and main bearings - but I'm alittle mystified about the intermittent lubrication requirements... is this unit self contained like a Century or Vic 5 or is it feeding feeding from the oil bath on the bottom of this Vic 4 E projector mechanism. There is an additional oil level/splash viewer inside on the intermittent assembly which is hard to gauge at best - does anyone have some factual information or knowledge on this projector as this intermittent is presently rock steady and I would like to make sure it stays that way and keeps on ticking away. It sounds perfect quiet presently.
IE: Intermittent oil level check at stop or while running and in reference to what on which sight glass port?

The projector which is hard to kill.....the intermittent unit is a separate oil tank with the oil level the middle of the site window at rest.

When you press the plunger you are sending oil to the gear shafts AND the intermittent unit. So you have no individual control over where the oil goes.

The best policy I can suggest is to pump the oil when you start to lace the projector.... When you finish lacing the projector.... When you start the show... In fact as often as you can. It will do no harm to the projector and the intermittent will not suffer if it is over filled.

Think about it. You press the plunger to oil the shafts etc every run so you are also topping up the intermittent you cannot avoid it. You cannot over do it.

get into the habit of pressing the plunger whenever you lace and start the show and you will not go wrong.
