Hiya crazy kids,
Here´s a crazy idea: can a SA10 be converted into a CP45? I find myself having to jump over piles of SA10s every time I go into my office. They are useless (and too big for paperweights) as you know. So, why not try to make something useful out of them?

Can this be done? Has anyone tried it out? What is necessary? I´m all ears!

Sure!
Just get all the (discontinued and unavailable) boards for a CP45, plus all the other assorted stuff and hardware, then jam it all into the SA10 case.

Some of the early SA10s had all of the parts stuffed on the In/out board but later ones did not. I believe the motherboard (rear) is different. The metal work on the rear will also hinder you as you will be missing the openings for things like the optical sound input.

You'll be missing the NR card (probably the priciest thing in the CP45).

The button panel is missing all of its switches since the ones that are there (two) are not momentaries. The front panel is lacking the cutouts for the remaining switches. You will be missing the volume control too.

And just think...once you are done...you are left with Dolby's worst processor of all time (for cinema)...the mediocre CP45.

I say...why bother? It is a bad investment in time and resources. If it has parts that can be used in CP45s...better to part them out for folks that need CP45 parts and also to keep SA10s going that are still installed.

Whay can I say, except thanks for such a complete reply. You´ve gone above and beyond, as usual. I agree that it is most certainly a waste of resources. The reason why I´m taking those out is because I have been installing CP750s.

Off-topic: can you believe that in a couple of days it´ll be 3 years since Glenn passed away?? I miss him. This company has turned into an ugly place to work without him.

Sam: You are surely right. However I can tell you from the inside that Glenn´s passing contributed to this place becoming uglier.
In any event, I believe I was feeling sorry for myself, and not him. You see, there is not that many people (here at least) that miss him. I know Louis does and there is comfort in numbers.

BTW, today is the third anniversary of his death.
