Hello friends,

Does anyone know for a fact if a profound restoration has been made on the original film elements for "TO CATCH A THIEF"-1955?

Has someone handled OR seen a recent 35mm re-issue print of this title in the last couple of years?

I know that the recent dvd has been cleaned up quite a bit. Is this just a digital restoration for the home video market OR is it possible to reprint this title in 35mm with the same upgraded results?

Any help would be deeply appreciated!

Is there someone which has handled a recent print which can supply a scan of a few 35mm frames to give an indication if what a new print can look like???

I saw a 35mm print here in San Francisco about a year ago.

It was a nice clean print, but I doubt it was a "restored"
version. There were numerous scene-to-scene color shifts,
and the usual color jumping just before all the dissolves &
fades as was common in the Technicolor releases of the 1950's.

I think a "restored" version would have corrected the inter
scene & fade/disslove color shifts. So it was probably just
a nice "re-issue" print I saw.

Another forum states that Paramount has just done a 4K on To Catch a Thief. Undoubtedly it will be released on Blu Ray whether new prints are struck or not. FWIW, I have 2 16mm prints of the film, one a miraculously, totally unfaded Eastman, and the other LPP. The LPP has a very slight blueish cast, but both are spectacular, and until Jim mentioned it, I didn't really notice the color shift around the opticals so I'm not surprised there are decent 35's around. Wonderful film.

Also ran it about a year ago. In pretty good shape, but definitely not restored.
