The automation works fine when starting the show. However, occasionally the movie will randomly shut down in the middle (happened today about 45 minutes into the movie). This has happened with two different prints so it's not from a misplaced cue. We are using older style Kelmar fail safes, not proximity detectors. Any thoughts?

Does it shut down just like it the STOP button had been pressed, motor and xenon off and everything? Or does it shut down as if the failsafes dropped, setting off the alarm (assuming the alarm actually works)? If the latter, try switching failsafes if you can and see what happens.

You either have a relay or a cam timer microswitch problem. Most likely the microswitch closest to the motor or the one beside it (#1, #2) Louis

Check the cue detector failsafe switch as well. For what ever reason I have been replacing cue detector switched left and right lately. New switches are lead free and must be made from fructose corn syrup er something. So don't expect them to last very long either.

Here is a shotgun answer.
Check the connections on the switches electrical connector tabs. Sometimes the push on crimp connectors get loose and intermittently create an open.
