we have 3 alpha platter systems and all three have a light bulb socket at the very end of the platter arm that has the bulb pointing out parallel to the deck bellow it. the socket is brown has a copper contact tab at the bottom and one on the side. there is no visible screw slots or bayonet slots.

what kind of a bulb does it take??

I used to use a 6 watt indicator bulb with a screw-base manufactured by Sylvania.

Get a $7.00 under counter florescent thingy at Ace and tie it to the arm with some big cable ties. Wire in place of socket. You'll smile after you do and ask your self why didn't they...

Anything is better than the original lamp. The 12" fluorescent under-counter light is my first choice: easy to mount with wire ties or duct tape, cheap as dirt, and plenty bright but not too bright... and you can even gel the inside of the plastic bulb cover for a cool colored light. Mounted close to the pillar it isn't in the way when pulling the brain or swapping prints.

If you are referring to the Strong AP3, don't waste your money buying the proper bulbs, unless indeed, you do want to waste money. For some reason these bulbs have a very short lifetime...at least in our locations.

Perhaps in Europe they last longer due to the slower electricity.

The issue is vibration from the deck. Any high voltage filament bulb is bad. LED should work OK, but the fluorescent mentioned above is OK, too. Kind of poor workmanship with cable ties and cords. Wouldn't fly in Kentucky either with the owners or with the fire codes. Louis
