We are in the process of re-building after severe storm damage and it has been quite an interesting experience to say the least. Since JBL doesn't sell the cabinet individually, we are currently in a debate with the insurance company on whether the LF and SW cabinets that sustained water damage can be built by a 3rd party and still meet OEM specs. I know theoretically they could be reverse engineered, but how are we to know that the new cabinet actually meet OEM specs? Has anyone else had to deal with this situation?

Something here doesn't ring right.
Are the insurers playing the old 'We don't want to pay out' method of avoiding payment? I ask this because any sensible insurer would realise it's FAR cheaper to buy 'new-for-old'. The PRIME reason for doing so is the obvious fact that mould would have begun to affect the paper/fibre cones in the boxes so they would at least require reconing. So what with the water damaged cabinets and collateral damage to the cones, would it not make obvious sense to just replace the cabinets?

Might be time to put the screws on the Insurer.

Assuming they behave like most insurers, then I can recommend Bass Box Pro as an ideal and very good program thats designed to take the sting out of box building.
