Hey gang,
Our 7 plex with its digital install looming on the 30th has a bummed irem rectifier. It looks like bad caps but im trying to weigh pros cons of doing a proper repair since it has to be up tomorrow but is coming out in 2.5 weeks.
Meanwhile i have 11 strong consoles just pulled out from another install and am thinking just put a strong ps in the xenex console and be done with it.
Unfortunately its not a little suitcase switcher but then again those sucked anyway.
So before i do...anything yall can think of to watch out for?

Nope. Just watch your "control" voltages to the contactor...IREMS tend to use 208/240v and Strongs IIRC used 120v.
Otherwise an easy retrofit.

Well this isnt going to work. The xenex console is too narrow unless you cut off the welded in rails on either side

Don't give up yet....
If you can, leave the non-operator side cover off of the compartment and set the Strong rectifier inside, hanging out of the Xenex console if necessary.
Cover up any exposed electrical connections as best you can...remember this is only temporary so it doesn't have to be neat or pretty, just reasonably safe.
Another thought: See if the caps in the Strong are of close enough value to get the Xenex going again. Voltage ratings MUST be the same or higher, capacitance can be + or - 20% or so. Use multiple caps if needed to get close in value. If two caps for one gets you a value within say -20 to +50% in value it will work for a temp job.

Been there and done that -had a rectifier hanging outside of a console .. couple of cinderblocks to rest the unit on and away you go.
