I know a few years ago with Inglourious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino refused to allow the film to be released on anything other than film. Does anyone know if it'll be the same for Django Unchained?

Unless QT wants the movie to do very little business, this is not practical. The industry is so far along with the digital conversion that very few of the high grossing theatres are still running 35mm. For the most part, insisting on a 35mm only release will do nothing but ensure the movie will primarily play in a small handful of low grossing theatres.

Unless Rave kept its 35mm projectors up and running here, Inglorius Basterds played digital. Maybe QT had enough pull to get it to play 35mm in certain flagship theatres.

On IMDb it lists the printed film formats as being 35mm and D-cinema.

And any attempt to only release Django Unchained on film will be as effective as his attempt was with Inglorious Basterds, as I played that in digital on it's release.

Seriously, NO director has enough clout for that. Even Spielberg failed.

Brad, what's prompting some IMAX theaters to reinstall 15/70mm just for DKR? Is it IMAX, the studio, or Mr. Nolan?

Mr.Nolan -- since he shot over 70% of DKR using IMAX 65mm camaeras.

I'm not so sure they're being reinstalled so much as being left where they were when the digital was put in. It was mentioned here by someone that at least one theater was told when they converted that the film projector was staying for an unnamed movie this summer.

Yep..they got installed- they put the Christies on tracks to slide them out of the way.

'The Dark Knight Rises' on insistence of director Christopher Nolan will be shown at the Odeon, Leicester Square in 35mm. All rehearsal's, press/trade shows, premiere and entire run will be in 35mm. A show print will also be struck by Technicolor London.
