I thought I would post this in the event anyone was still running that old film stuff in this day and age. [Razz]

Since IDE drives are starting to become a bit more difficult to find (currently amazon still has a few options, but as time goes on that will dwindle), I have found this adapter does do the trick nicely.

SATA to IDE hard drive interface adapter (on amazon)

As you can see below, it mounts in the XD10 with plenty of room.

This is less than $4 with shipping and works just fine.

Does anyone know if this will work with SATA DVD burner drives? I would like to put a new DVD burner drive in a computer that only has IDE prots, all the new DVD burners have SATA ports. And the price is right.

If Amazon is selling this device, I would think this adapter is fine for any SATA unit-it's not dedicated for cinema usage only.

Brad, are you aware of a good low-cost solution for a DTS 6D's drives? Seems that SCSI drives are expensive and getting harder to find. I wonder if a SATA adapter card and drives could replace the SCSI card and drives?

I can't speak for Brad, but the last time I needed a couple
of drives to repair some 6D's, I found them on e-bay. I've
bought both "pulled", untested ones pretty cheap as well
as 'rebuilt' ones that cost a bit more. These were the
TEAC drives. Never had any trouble with ones I bought.
Last week there was an entire (working!)6D unit listed
for only 75bux.

Thanks Jim, but I am looking for a more long-term replacement solution and one that doesn't use obsolete drives. And I have very little trust in Fleabay anymore, but that is another thread....

As for Scsi adapters there was one that DTS sold but the manufacturer of them has a large min order

Gordon, you're missing the point.

SCSI drives are all but gone. IDE is on it's way out.

SATA is the new rage, so I want to change my DTS6D's drives from SCSI to SATA.

Wonder if anyone from DataSat is watching this thread, maybe they could chime in....

Prob so, but with digital making the landslide invasion, DATASAT might be looking towards the future to maintain business.

Besides, if one can find some APPLE SCSI drives on eBone, they work pretty good as well.. for a dime.

The problem is the DTS system actually looks for a specific drive and all the upgrades over the years were works around it
That is why when the IDE DVD drives were supplied they used a scsi bridge to convert it and the aquilla board did the translation

are you sure that the system is looking for a specific drive? That reminds me the "custom firmware" of the toshiba CDROM drives. I got some from fleabay and compared the fw from the original ones: they were identical.

Question: if you have the "upgrade" to IDE DVD drives, could you just use the adapter listed at the beginning of this thread in order to use SATA drives?

I just used on of the Amazon IDE to SATA adaptors to put a new SATA CD/DVD burner into an older computer that only had IDE. It is working fine. I cut a piece out of the small cardboard box it came in to use as a seperator, so that the adaptor circuit board does not touch the back of the drive. Thanks for the idea, Brad.
