Persistent bulb flicker in an older (20 years) 2000 watt Xetron console. I have tried two brand new bulbs. I bought the console used. When the unit was redeployed we removed the IREM rectifier and replaced with a newer Strong switcher we had on hand.
The flicker increases when the amperage to the bulb is increased.

Check EVERY DC connection from the rectifier all the way through the igniter to the bulb. Odds are you're gonna find one that is loose or discolored. If loose and not discolored, tighten it. If discolored or burned ALL parts of the damaged connection MUST be replaced.

It is also possible the DC lead connections INSIDE the switcher are loose, have seen it happen before. To check that out, power down the rectifier, wait at least 10 minutes for the caps inside to discharge, then remove the gazillion screws holding the cover on and check the lead connections behind the terminal board AND at the module ends.

I'd put the IREM back on line and dump that STRONG switcher..prob have some dry caps in that switcher and got too much AC ripple coming out.

What's the deal with the magnet? I see it on the side of the reflector. Is it adjustable?

The purpose of the magnet is to hold the arc stable.
Without it you would have a flicker fest but if it's in the wrong position it can cause problems also.
