Has anyone out in the field attempted to accommodate a Strong X60 or X60B with one of Strong's switching rectifiers?
If I'm not mistaken, the early model X60s had 220V control and ignition systems, but Strong's switching power supplies only offered 115V AC output.

Hi Don:

The solution is relatively simple or slightly more complex depending on which model of late-model switcher you own.

If you have the one with the MS connector for the lamphouse, you can use leads 7 and 8 to supply the 220v to the lamphouse ignitor/blower. Leads 5 and 6 are the 120v return from the lamphouse to turn the rectifier on. (IIRC on the 62-00014 version you would set the switch to the "LAMPHOUSE" position.)

On other models there would be a second terminal strip with terminals 7 and 8 on them.

If the unit does NOT have either the MS connector or the terminals 7 and 8, the other way to do this is to supply the lamphouse with 220v from your panel, use a relay (or contactor) with a 220 volt coil to connect to the lamphouse leads that would go to the rectifier's contactor leads. Connect the contacts of the relay or contactor to switch a 120v circuit to go the the switching supply's terminals 5 and 6.

Depending on your electrical prowess this is best done by a technician to avoid frying the lamphouse or rectifier or both.
