Yeah chuck that Kintek piece of crap, cabinet and all, into the nearest dumpster. [Big Grin]

You can easily find used in good condition subs, cabinet and all, with a little bit of effort.

And you'll end up with a better, non-obsolete sub to boot. [thumbsup]

There was nothing wrong with the Kintek subs other than the internal amp and it was crap But the cabinet and driver were fine especially if used in multiples
Emmenence has a similar driver

Well Gordon I will respectfully disagree with you on this one as well. Yes the amps were the weak link, but the sub itself never impressed me as good enough as compared to JBL (or even EV) and the current QSC subs kick everyone's butts.

Point is that it is obsolete and never was that great. So unless that Eminence driver you speak of is very inexpensive, it is simply not worth the effort.

Kintek is fine if you are going for Smart processors, Afterburners and other such quality-destroying items.

If you are going for used, I doubt you will find any QSC, so the next best thing for subs would be EV or JBL. If you are going to go new, absolutely nothing beats the QSC 21" sub. Nothing else is even in the same ballpark.

I like the QSC 21 Inch sub but it is not very efficient. Even Barry Ferrell agrees he would never spec one in a normal size room in less than 4 in a cube to get the efficiency up to something reasonable. Amp power is cheap but...

I was never a fan of the KT-90. EVERY bass effect sounded the same...it was as if it recorded a single bass effect and played that rather that what was recorded. The lethal nature of the amplifers in the thing was another story all together.

As to the QSC 21"...I'm a bit surprised by its lack of deep bass. In fact, go look at its response (located in its user manual rather than spec sheet. It has to high passed at 20Hz but starts to tank at 25Hz. 40Hz and below is about 7-8 dB below 100 Hz. While it is great that one need not use B-6 filtering and it does have impressive power handling (note it is a 4-Ohm driver when combining them). I'm not convinced it is the ultimate in subs. It has a surprisingly similar response to the SB7218 though the SB7218 needs a B-6 filter to get its best response...which takes away for efficiency.

Compare those to a JBL 4645C (not the 4641 which looks identical and cost less)...it is ruler flat from 25-100Hz and with a B-6 filter can be ruler flat down to 20Hz. The 2242 driver in it is one of the best constructed drivers I've ever dealt with and cools itself VERY well.

With subs (whichever one you like), don't be afraid of multiples. One is almost always better served to use two to 4 units due to the gained efficiency and better bottom end. One really does have to do the math to ensure they have enough sub for a room. They are typically the least efficient thing in the room and have the greatest power demands (10dB more than any other channel).

I have heard a few rooms with QSC subs. They sound great, so deep and so clean. In a small room I was not expecting much from the small model of the line and a small amplifier, but I was so much impressed...

It looks to me like they can handle high power with lower distortion. I was in a big auditorium, the bass were really deep and clean, I went to see behind the screen expecting at least 6 speakers, and I found two double subs. Impressed.
