I'm looking for a framing bulb for a Norelco FP20 35mm projector. I know it's a festoon bulb, and that it's 24volts, 3 watts, but I can't seem to find the correct sized bulb, or where to purchase one.. or if I can find them maybe six. Can anyone provide me any help with this, it would be greatly appreciated, when running archive prints through for some of our special programs it's really tough to frame up the reels without framing bulbs.

Your Kinoton dealer should be able to source the lamp. Note too, it is possible to change the lamp holder too such that a more available lamp can be used.

$13.50 for ten on Ebay, unless it's the wrong length - but I thought that festoon bulbs were all of a standard length?

The 24 Volt lamps are quite common in marine use. Try looking in a catalog for lamps to be used on your cruiser.

The lamps are not all of the same length or diameter.

Many thanks Steve. J-sun: do you have a dead bulb you can measure the length and diameter of (being a German projector, these measurements will probably be metric rather than US)? This information might enable you to get some generic spares from Ebay or wherever, which would probably be cheaper than going through a Kinoton main dealer.

I have purchased some other festoon bulbs, thinking that they were all the same size, and that the volts/watts would differ, unfortunately that didn't play out.

Here are the specs from the bulb that I have.

1.415 inches long (37mm)
Tube is .255 inches wide (6.47mm)
Metal contact width .246 inches (6.24mm)
Metal contacts length .275 inches (7mm)

Over the years, I've used a company here in SoCalif for all sorts of miniature lamp types: Sunray Lighting (for larger bulbs), and their associated Candela Co. for small bulbs. Candela has a gigantic and illustrated catalog available online as a PDF, and from that you can figure out exactly what you want. Here is the link: Candela Co. catalog They can also be reached by phone at 800-854-4487.

If you look at pages 30 and 31 of that catalog, you'll see some 8 variants of Festoon lamps, in various volt and watt specifications, and clear or frosted, one of which almost certainly is what you'd want. The nice thing about it is, once you've determined which bulb is the correct one for you, you'll have a specific bulb type and ordering number for future reference. For example, they show a 12v./10watt clear variant, which is a "SR1210X-FT".
