My Kelmar table has been cinching acetate film lately. The tension is let out all the way, and the feed reels are sometimes loose wound but usually tight. What usually happens is the motor will start "groaning" or grinding, and will clicking as the take up reel is getting full and will start cinching so that when it finishes, the middle is loose and the outer part is tight. At other times, I'll get a tight core, but it causes cinching on the feed reel. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I wouldn't blame the table, but more the film,esp where it's acetate, and we all know that acetate gets a slight bit of a lateral curl in it when the stuff ages due to slight shrinkage.

Wind the film opposite then - If you're doing emulsion out, wind it emulsion in to counter-act the curl.

Agreed. When film doesn't behave the way you want it to, try winding it in the opposite orientation in the reel or platter.

Have you checked your motor brushes?

You might need to replace or re-seat one (or both) of them.

I did the winding opposite way trick and that seemed to have worked on a couple reels. I like to store acetate emulsion in as that's what Kodak recommends. Some polyester reels I rewound didn't have any issues. I should probably have the brushes looked at as well, thanks!
