Hello
Does anyone know how to change the little bulbs for the keys on the operator panel for a Kinoton (as below):

I manage to get the coloured covers off, but can't seem to get into replacing the bulbs

You were close. You need to take the diffuser off too.

Thanks - simple. Out of the 8 buttons, 6 didn't have any bulbs in and now replaced, but i can't get the top two out (which had blown) and they're small fiddly bulbs - might have to get some pliers out on them and pull them out (with the power off obviously!) - unless anyone knows of any other trick haha!

It's only for 'cosmetic' reasons why I want these working, as we have an open day soon with projection room tours, would like our trusty 35mm projector to look its best against the digital-beast

We have the actual "tool" for changing those lamps...it is this little clamp thing that will let one remove/install the lamp without crushing it. You might get lucky with pliers though.

When we have put in out own buttons to match Kinoton's (did this on some RSSD conversions and when we set up a special FP18)...we found a cosmetically matching button but used LEDs as the light source...never have to change them again! The came in all of the Kinoton button colors too. I believe they were made by IDEC.

I've stripped outer insulation off some cable (slightly smaller than the diameter of the lamp) before and pushed that tightly over the lamp glass, then gentle wiggle and pull and its usually comes out.

Have used a soda straw that is just undersized as well.

Did it with heat shrink. A little heat and it grabs good.

There is an LED equivalent for these lamps which alleviates the weekly bulb changing routine!

Sorted. Used a long thin screwdriver and eased it out (with the power off obviously). I now have a shiny set of illuminated buttons. Makes the girl look good [Smile]
