Sorry about my English,I'm from Hungary .

I have a Dolby cp-650. It was worked in a cinema a long time ago but since 2 year it's gone wrong. I put it on warehouse but now I have some time to play with it. It's won't boot the screen has two black line. I try to remove the cat 790 card, check voltages, check psu capacitors but nothing's.

It looks like the flashrom card is defective.You will need a new one from Dolby,if they still provide them.I think its cat797

They have been withdrawn from sale. They might be available as a repair/exchange unit but not sure.

I do have various 650 parts I've obtained if you are in need.

although you've checked the voltages, I've seen that before and it was the PSU. Cannot be 100% sure it's your case as well though. Do you have a spare PSU around?

Proper voltages are only one third of the story. Also check for "PARC"* on the buss as well as voltage regulation with changing functions of the system.

* Old toll test term (crap)like noise

There are three vendors for the power supply "brick" that fits on the carrier sled that fits in the 650 frame. Two of the power supply vendors are still making the brick and I've placed an order for a quantity to do repair support in US and Canada. The Lambda version is long gone. Also, each of the sled type and related wiring fits only the power supply brand originally intended.

Aren't these power supplies repairable? Is it really necessary to throw away and replace the entire unit when it fails?

These little power supplies are not at all easy to fix or even disassemble. No schematics, and all components packed into a tiny space. I'm sure the right tech could fix some of them but the ones I've seen can fail dramatically and smell of smoke. If it were to be used in my own home unit I might give it a go but commercially not really worth the trouble, at least not for me.

i checked the power supply. its a little bit complicated board, with a lot of glued parts, but its seams to be ok.
Probably the cat.797 rom card has a fault. i asked dolby to spare parts but they have only RMA process for RoHS compliant compatible cp-650Z and cat.797-1Z.
Unfortunatly its not the Z version (its not lead free soldering parts, they don't do anything with this)

So if somebody have some spare parts or a working cat.797 card or somebody can repair or re-flash this card please help me out. thx.
