I recently purchased a Victoria 5 and i'm looking for the oils for it. I have read that they are very specific as to the type of oil. Also this projector has an oil film damper on it. I am looking for that oil as well. Anyone with insight into this? are there equivalents? [Smile]

Presumably you won't put damper oil in the intermittent.

We used refrigeration compressor oil, it's been a long time but Simplex wanted C3 and Ballantyne/Phillips wanted C4 as I recall. C3 is lower vicosity than C4.
The later Simplex oil was exactly repackaged clear C3 compressor oil according to the MSDS. Earlier Simplex oil was different, a very light yellow mineral based oil - but that was before WHMIS laws and they didn't have to tell us what.
Ballantyne oil was always a bit thicker and the Phillips intermittent is very similar (the Ballantyne PRO-xx being a copy of the FP20 mechanism)

There is still one big difference between the Proxx intermittent and the Phillips. The star and cam in the Proxx are not hardened steel. Phillips and Simplex are hardened. Also, the Brenkert star and cam were not hardened.

(everything is hard to get in Canada)
