Coming in June to the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, CA:

82 BLOWUP!

After it was discovered that films originally shot in 35mm could be blown up to 70mm to take advantage of the latter format’s superior sound and brighter imagery, numerous blockbusters were converted to the widescreen format, a process that peaked in the 1980s. Join us for two weekends of fantasy, horror and sci-fi as we turn the clock back 35 years with some of the most memorable movies of 1982, including THE DARK CRYSTAL, TRON and E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL.

Series compiled by Grant Moninger. Program notes by John Hagelston.

Does Tron really qualify for this? Pretty sure was shot in 70mm with maybe one or two 35mm cuts at most.

Correct. The majority of TRON was photographed 5/65mm. They talk about using the cameras from Lawrence of Arabia on the Laserdisc commentary track.
