I don't remember the difference between century & simplex oil, Getting down to my last 2 cans of simplex, but have a lot of century oil.

Simplex soundhead oil is different (and much thicker) than Simplex projector oil.

I've used Simplex oil in a Century machine with no problems. The oil came from Jack Roe in the U.K. I needed oil for a Century MSC/TA and they said Simplex oil would be fine ? Don't have the machine anymore and I didn't run it very often but it did seem fine ?

Simplex sound head oil is generally SAE 30 weight non-detergent, although the last ten or so years I started using Mobil-1 Synthetic Gear Lube. Also never had to replace and pinions or bronze gears after I switched to the gear lube.

Simplex super standard E7 ( and the clones) century ballantyne pro35 prevost gaumont kalee all used the same basic oil which originally was a non detergent SAE20
The simplex XL and it's offspring used originally a Capella refrigerant oil of SAE10 equivalent
Simplex and RCA soundhead oil and hortson projector originally used a non detergent SAE40
