None, ever.

Once you put oil on a clutch pad, you will FOREVER have to put oil on it. Just set your nut that controls the compression of the tension spring back further for less pressure.

This is especially important for reel arms on reel-to-reel projection systems. As the oil dries out, the tension becomes greater and you don't want the tension changing on you over time.

I did try that with a new pad but it was either too loose or too tight. I couldn't seem to get a good wrap.

Any more tips on this? The wrap is still too loose when rewinding reels.

You can always change out the clutch spring to one not so tight, which will give you more precision in the adjustment.

The oil stays on the pads better if you use synthetic oil. Mobil 1, LaVezzi oil or equivalent. It never dries up but it will eventually drip out, but over a very long time...
