Starting tomorrow, at San Francisco's Castro Theatre, there's a five-day run of 2001, alternating between Christopher Nolan's "unrestored" version in 70mm, and Leon Vitali's digital restoration in 4K DCP. I'm planning to see the whole film in 4K, and the first half hour in 70mm.

This year, I've already seen it in 70mm, iMax, and 4K in different theaters. (See my article https://eatdrinkfilms.com/2018/12/23/2001-a-projection-odyssey-big-screen-small-screen-70mm-digital/.)

After that run, the Castro will show Roma in 70mm. I'm wondering if there's any benefit in showing a digitally-shot movie in 70mm. It was shot with the ALEXA 65, which intends to get a 70mm-like look. I saw Roma at Dolby's new, huge, and all-digital Laboratory Theater, and it was one of the best movie presentations of my life.
