There were a lot of people waiting in the line at the counter behind me. They could all see that I rented "Episode 1". One of the most embarassing moments of my life. They were all giving me queer looks. But my therapist prescribed it to me. He said I would never get over the shock of watching it almost 4 years ago if I didn`t confront the demons that have haunted me since then (especially Mr Binks). Maybe listening to the audio commentaries will help me understand what the hell they were thinking when they made it.
Can you get a neurogenic shock from watching this a second time? This may be my last post on this forum. Farewell.

It's been nice knowing you Michael. Jar Jar in Ep1 should only be reserved for the most severe punishment to a criminal.

A word of advice before you put the DVD into the player though, call your attorney and have him sue for insanity if you don't make contact back within 48 hours. [Wink]

A similar thing happened to me last Friday nite when I rented the Episode IV DVD (The New Hope) I got the same weird looks from some people behind me in line, in fact they were even laughing out loud. What gives, .......do I have a sign on my back that says, "I'm a Star Wars nerd" ?"

It was very embarassing, I am glad I was not with my kids.

I am never going to rent DVD's ever again at "Little Ray's House of DVD's" . [Confused]

When I woke up the next morning it felt as if I had been in a bad dream for ages. But I survived. Yet the worst was still to come. When I returned the DVD the girl at the counter gave me this "dirty old man" look. Somebody behind me said "why does nobody protect our children from people like you". That was more than I could take. My hand reached for the light saber hidden under my anorak. But then I heard a voice that said "anger leads you to the dark side" and fled from the scene.

Did a search on EBAY for 'Star Wars DVD' and returned 450 results. Some are for the newer versions, but there are definately some original versions there. A couple refer to them having 'removable' subtitles, so I guess we are talking Asian copies here.

Claude, Star Wars Episodes IV, V, and VI, as you probably know, have not been released 'officially' on DVD. I'm sure that's what John was referring to. [Smile]

Yup. AFAIK, no "officially authorized" DVDs yet. But I wouldn't be surprised to find pirated ones available, especially in the far east:

Always puzzled me why George Lucas, proponent of digital presentation, has held back DVD release of the Star Wars Trilogy (Episodes IV, V, VI) [Roll Eyes]

I think he said that he would wait with the DVD editions of the original movies until after Episode 3 is finished. He doesn`t have enough time to prepare the commentary and bonus material as thouroughly as he wants to right now.

From what I have been reading and hearing, Episodes IV, V and VI will be worked over so much with all kinds of digital corrections when they are eventually released on DVD that it will take away a lot of charm that made these three films great. I love all three when the were first released and so far Episodes I and II have not been able to measure up to the earlier films. Do you suppose Lucas has lost his touch as a filmmaker? In all fairness, while I did not enjoy Episode II in the theatre because the image on film printed from digital files was terrible, I did enjoy the movie when I watched the DVD. Episode One was a loser both in the theater and on DVD. The DVD picture and sound however is outstanding and I am not ashamed of having it in my collection. [Smile]

My run of EpII was technical hell due to some problems with our DTS unit. So I haven't actually seen the entire thing... well not linearly anyway.

Strengthened by the experience, and somewhat reconciled by the wealth of background info and bonus material, I went out and rented Ep 2 next. Surprise! There was no bonus material other than the audio commentary, no deleted scenes, no documentaries, featurettes, storyboards, nothing! It is only one DVD. Is the US edition the same?

The Region One edition of Episode Two is a two disc set and features all kinds of extra material. I was under the impression that all DVD edition of this movie in every region will have exactly the same program content and was very surprised to learn that the copy you rented in Germany was 'Bare Bone" with no extras. Some of the features found in the Region One version includes commentary by George Lucas and others, Anamorphic 16 X 9 widescreen, deleted scenes, a documentary on the production of the fim, a music video featuring John Williams, theatrical teaser, trailers and TV spots among many other extra features. I have had my copy since it first went on sale almost three months ago and I still did not get to watch all of the extra stuff.

Michael, the Zone 2 edition I bought here in Belgium is the 2-disc set featuring everything that was described above. Maybe the rntal edition is different than the sale edition.

The only thing I regret with Ep2 DVD is the absence of a 50-minute or so "real" making-of covering all aspects of the making, from pre-production to post-production, as they did with Ep1 DVD. Ep2 DVD bonus focuses too much on the aspect of using digital technology to make this film (SFX, sound design, editing).

The DVD listed on Amazon Germany also has all the bonus material. But I am not going to buy this anyway. What I got obviously was a rental version.
By the way, is there an episode 2 jump-and-run game ? The factory scene looked as if it had been primarily created to promote a game. Episode 1 was the video for the pod racer game which sucked enormously.
