I've had a Widescreen TV (Philips Gaoo)for some time now and people wondered and commented that there are not enough shows on TV in W/S ,but my reason was to watch DVD in it's best state (anamorphic) but now most of the popular shows are exclusive in 16:9 with some Sports channels in Anamorphic W/S and on our Satelite Sky Channels the Movies are mostly W/S....the question is How far off is HDTV in your country and is there any time table for it's introduction ,as in NZ we are getting ready for Digital Public broadcasts although we have Sky Digital operating at the moment.------------------

Hi Paul, in australia both SDtv and HDtv have been running for a while now. I bought a panasonic HD ready widescreen tv and a HD set top box (DGTEC). I was dissapointed to find bearly any HD broadcasting , out of the 5 channels that we have, only channel 10 is broadcasting HD. Some of the HD shows we get are BECKER and THE GUARDIAN, thats it really unless you include the shows shot in SD and then broadcast as HD, which look good but its still SD!. Channel 10 also broadcast a HD demonstration channel which has some very beautiful images shot around australia on an HD camera, but this only goes for one hour and is looped.
Regarding widescreen , channel 10 broadcasts the most in anamorphic widescreen, with the others shooting widescreen occasionally.
I just hope that the tv stations start to get behind HDTV , because if they dont, the consumers certainly wont!.
