Review: DVD (I specially imported this film and its sequel in from Malaysia).

Much has been said about America's dislike for subtitles but perhaps this style of film can break through where many other foreign films have failed.

Luc Besson's Taxi speaks a universal language - a language about seriously fast cars, fast driving and fast action. For those who bother to read the subtitles there's a bit of comedy as well. The star of this film is not Sami Naceri or Fredric Diefenthal but one seriously souped up White Peugeot 406. This film has arguably done for Peugeot what the Love Bug did for Volkswagon Beetles.

The car chases are great, the humour ok and the car... it speaks for itself. It makes me want to go out and buy one. The plot is a relatively straightforward buddy movie between and inept young cop and a young taxi driver with a passion for fast cars and racing. The Germans are the bad guys in this movie.

A great film. If you like fast cars this film is for you. Great stunts and the car... aahhhhh!

7 stars out of 10

cheers Peter

ps I'm still wondering how they did the half built bridge scene at the end of this film. Did they find a bridge that was under construction or did they digitally remove parts of the bridge?
