There is a special on the White House Theatre and one of it's projectionists running on Thursday night, August 7th on Bravo.

Bill: I was thumbing through one of those "grocery store" tabloids my wife had picked up and, wonder of wonders, there was a story on the White House screening room with all kinds of tid-bits on every president from Johnson through Clinton provided by the projectionist who's been there for supposedly 33 years. The only problem was that they showed a picture of the guy standing next to his projector--a 16mm JAN on a homemade wooden 2'X4' stand. Somehow I kinda doubt that!

I caught about 90% of the series last night, and it certainly cleared up the convenitional myths about the white house still running XL's with mono sound, etc. Obviously, they've been the recipient of a lot of generosity when it comes to equipment. Obviously, though, most of it was aimed at "non theatrical" people and with the exception of some tid bits was someting of a letdown. I got a chuckle over Kennedy's behind the scenes direction of PT109 and Nixon's "nixing" of the number from 1776 (terrible movie IMHO), but I do wonder where Reagan got a "White House quality" print of Knute Rockney! Good luck if one of us called Warners. Ahh to be Jack Valenti.

The entire three part show was shown last night at 8:00 here in Honolulu and I also watched about 90% of the program. Although the show was very interesting, the commercials started to get on my nerves when they kept showing promos for Bravo's "WEST WING" and the reality show with a gay theme over and over and over and over and over and over again! After about an hour and a half, I was very bored by the show itself because of being forced to watch these commercials over and over and over and over and over again!
By the way, I have to differ with you about "1776", Jeff. I love the movie because of my interest in early American history. I thought it was very well made and as far as I can tell, it was fairly accurate.

Moderator - This is more of a "Yak" thread since it doesn't involve DVD or other post-release films. I suppose it could be considered "home theatre."
