Why actually do they need to make a remake of a good movie like this? Its remakes like this that make a movie to have a bad name. It'll make critics reanalyze it, saying it was "bad" the first time around, when we really need to respect the movie as it is. The actors playing the roles now are totally not going to make it any better...maybe just maybe... Patricia Heaten can bring something to the table but the male role can absolutely not be replaced.

"Goodbye Girl" was a good movie but it was seriously flawed by the casting. A remake might be a second chance for the script. Today we have far more interesting actors, some names spring to mind for the male lead, Matthew McConaughey or maybe Vin Diesel.

The original was a cute picture and the little girl was the best of all. Although, I couldn't picture Marsha Mason and Richard Dreyfuss together, which distanced me from the story. She looked too old for him.

But, she was Neil Simon's squeeze... what are ya gonna do?

All I know is I'm getting soooooooo sick of that Hootie and the Blowfish teaser for the film TNT is running constantly. It's not bad enough that they remake the film and then run it three nights in a row, c'mon guys stop pissing me off during Law and Order!

As Roger Ebert has said, they shouldn't remake good movies; they should remake bad ones and make them good. It's been a long time since I saw TGG but I recall it was decent, light entertainment. One advantage of a remake would be we would not be forced to imagine Richard Dreyfuss naked.

I agree with Jeff on those damn, long "music video" plugs TNT runs on the Goodbye Girl. That alone tells me this remake is a dog and should be avoided. I thought the original was excellent for a Neil Simon film and worked for me.

Yeah, it wouldn't be a good idea to trash Richard Dreyfuss around JP. He's all she ever talks about.

Vin Dieseel is about as good an actor as Freddy Prinze Jr.

Remakes are ridiculous. I have no idea why they would try to remake movies like Psycho and some of the other classics which are definitive in their field. You'd think they'd want to take some real piece of [bs]

like a John Revolta movie, and try to make that better.
It reminds me of when I was a kid and we used to pretend that we were in TV shows, when we were playing. We liked the shows so much we wanted to be part of it.
Maybe imagination and creativity are dead in Hollywood, with the occasional exception?

It would be done all digitally in this day and age. That alone would make it better. Of course it would have to be projected with a Christie Digital P-35 fed from a Christie Digital platter and lit with a Christie Digital lamp installed in a Christie Digital lamphouse. This would truely be the first "All Digital" showing ever done anywhere. For reliability reasons the audio would come off of a seperate optical SR track on a digitally run dubber driven by a Digital shaft encoder located inside the Christie Digital P-35 projector.... since as of yet there is no Christie Digital sound [Confused]

Greg has it nailed! Remakes are veiled attempts by newbies to time travel and be in movies they liked growing up.

I've always thought remakes and sequels lessen the original.
