Just got it. This replaces a copy recorded from TV in 1980, and a 1985 CBS/Fox copy.
First time I've gotten it in widescreen.
I saw this film in 1980 (?) at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
The new transfer is very nice. Good rich color. The 1985 version had lots of sparkles, etc, all around the reel changes, etc. Also, it was somewhat faded.
Has this one been restored, or are they just using a better original?
Disc includes a flat version of the scope trailer. Why?
One good thing I notice is that FOX has not removed the cues in this release. Good.
The stereo on this is 5 to 1. I'll try this feature out later.

Hello Bruce,
I had an opportunity to rent "GUYS AND DOLLS" on DVD when it was first released several years ago and like you, I was very impressed with the picture quality and the sound. I do recall seeing this movie in a theatre with four track mag stereo and enjoyed it very much. I thought I was the only one who miss seeing change over cue marks on DVDs. when ever I see them, it has always reminded me of the old days when all movies in theatres were shown using two projectors.
