I have a screen saver (Psych) that produces some very impressive screen motion effects that I would like to use on my lobby monitors between promos and when the stage is not quite ready to have the live camera that looks at the stage to go live. I want to record the screen saver motion effects in any standard movie file so that I can pull the clips into a video editing program.

Is there any way to capture video that is generated by a program in the computer? Someone suggested using an VGA output capture card to output the VGA to an external recorder and then dump it back into the computer. That seems like a pretty roundabout hokey way to do it and it will require an external recorder of some sort.

What would be ideal and what I would like, would be a way to have a video editing prgram just record whatever any other program is being sent to the monitor. Is this realistically possible?

Item secondo -- can anyone recommend a DVD authoring program that, after I have put together a video in my editing program, can burn it to a DVD+-R but will allow me to put in things like chapter points and most importantly, give it instructions to the player to return to the beginning and to then initiate Play again. This is important because I am using this in our lobby and I want it to be able to play unatteneded until it is stopped.

try FRAPS (fraps.com) .. bloody good (no loss of quality) and you may be able to find 1.9? (some letter a-f or something) which was uncrippled freeware).. it's more expensive to register, but it's the best solution i've found for capping 3D stuffs...

Ironically enough I was trying to locate a program that converted powerpoint presentations to video. I think this same program will help me - and it's not too expensive!

try the demo out first. i don't think powerpoint uses DirectX or OpenGL.. but then again the last Powerpoint i used was with Office 97 :P .. OpenOffice.org powah ;p
