I just got this DVD and have been trying to find it for a long time. Unfortunately it looks like it was copied from a video tape and that taken from a 16mm print. It's extremely contrasty in some places with some scenes pretty hard to see because of darkness and washed out brightness. It says "Digitally Mastered" and I guess it could be, but definately not "restored". It also says "Dolby Stereo", but not that I can tell.

All that said, it's still fun to watch, if you like really bad monster movies. One of Roger Corman's best/worst. I probably saw this a zillion times when I was a kid, at saturday afternoon matinees along with "Attack of The Giant Leeches" (etc).

ANYTHING on a DVD by it's technical definition HAS to be "digitally mastered". Think about it. [Razz]

It's just like saying "we pop our popcorn fresh!" Well yeah, OF COURSE IT WAS POPPED FRESH...at the time.

I have the one and only official studio VHS release of this film, and it looks the same, in fact, I thought for a moment that it was a kinescope the way the contrast was bouncing. My understanding is that the DVD is just the same master.

Warner Brothers controls this title now, along with most of the old Allied Artists library that they pick up when they absorbed Lorimor. That means that they also have two other great sci-fi classics (?): Attack of the 50 Foot Woman and The Giant Behemoth (the VHS of the later flick was of the TV cut, which was missing almost 10 minutes), along with all the old Monogram westerns and their “B” program titles. I’d only LOVE to see these properly remastered.
