Bought one used on ebay. I thought it would be a really easy way to back up my media files and watch an occasional movie or tv show. What I wasn't expecting was stunning hd quality from rented movies. To be fair, I don't have a blu-ray player for comparison, and the only hd content i've watched previously is from Dish Network and their hd quality leaves something to be desired. The first movie I "rented" on the Apple TV was The Bank Job. I didn't see any digital artifacts or jerky fast motion scenes. Color and shading looked really good. Sound came up as Dolby Digital 5.1 So far I'm really impressed.

The Apple TV is great for most uses. I love mine.
In terms of video quality, the only down side is that your stuck with 720p as a maximum. iTunes doesn't have anything with a higher resolution than that.
Mainly I use mine as a way of quickly watching video podcasts. I no longer have to manage the video podcasts in iTunes, sync them to my iPod, and then dock the iPod to the TV. Now I can browse and watch them right on the Apple TV.
Down the road, I'd like to see better integration with media rich web sites like Hulu or TWiT Live.

I spent an entire evening watching you tube clips on my big TV, but the crappy video quality of You Tube ensures that the novelty will soon wear off.....

Still beats anything on broadcast TV, regardless of quality. After I get a new TV I'm probably going to get a laptop to use on it, so I can watch online porn on a big screen
