Beside the deluxe edition of THE AFRICAN QUEEN, I am picking up John Woo's RED CLIFF tomorrow as a blind buy on Blu-Ray. I saw the theatrical trailer for the shortened American version of the movie in a theatre and thought to myself I got to have that. I did not know at the time that the original film is almost five hours long and the US version was edited down to a little over two hours. Although I heard the US version was good, the 'International' version is much better. Magnolia will be releasing four edition of the movie on Blu-Ray and DVD, the edited American version, Part One, Part Two and the International version consisting of both Part One and Two. For a few dollars more, it is a no brainer to get the International version. I do not know anything about the movie except it is based on the Battle of Red Cliff during the end of the Han dynasty prior to the period of the three kingdom in ancient Chinese history.

I saw screen caps of the Blu-Ray and they look awesome.

We showed the American version and it works perfectly well. Apparantly the Asian version has more stuff that is well known to the Asian market.

It did look really great on the screen. Really crisp clear print. And, of course, lots of John Woo ballets of blood.

Best Buy told me they were bringing in the international version of RED CLIFF but when I went there this morning, they had none and the clerk told me it was only available on line. The same was true for the deluxe edition of THE AFRICAN QUEEN I guess I will have to get RED CLIFF from Amazon whose prices is cheaper than Best Buy. Instead of the deluxe set of TAQ in Blu-Ray, I bought the standard edition from Costco and saved about twenty five dollars and used part of it to buy the five disc set of THE BLADE RUNNER for $12.95.
