Don't you think this is a bit excessive? DTS Neo:X is basically 7.1 audio up-mixed to 11.1, kind of like a poor man's Dolby Atmos. Also, didn't the original DCP only had 5.1 audio? And should you spend all that time setting up your HT for Neo:X just to watch once movie in that format. Can this be an experimental Blu because no one has ever tried designing a mix for Neo:X? Is this the future of home cinema to come?

The Neo:X algorithm can upmix any 5.1 or 7.1 source to 11.1 - what they're doing differently with Expendables 2 is the 7.1 track was remixed on the dub stage specifically with Neo:X in mind, presumably by mixing in 11.1 and then using various filters and matrix tricks to lay down a 7.1 track that will maximize the Neo:X 11.1 playback.

It's quite different from Atmos, which is object based rather than channel based. If anything it's probably closest to what Barco is doing with Auro 11.1 in cinemas.

I still don't get what Lionsgate has with films being remixed into 7.1 (or 11.1 for that matter) when neither 'The Expendables 2' or 'Step Up Revolutions' (another bluray which is 7.1/11.1 encoded) only played in 5.1 theatrically
