I have wondered about this for a while: how do TV stations do live news shots from moving vehicles, inside trains, and the like? These are the sorts of shots that would never be possible with a conventional microwave or satellite relay. This seems to be a fairly recent development (although I don't watch much TV, so maybe it has been around for a few years). There must be someone here who works or has worked at a TV station and knows how this works....

It's all on multi-link 3G or 4G networks. There are a number of manufacturers now working with the technology, using specialized antennas and TX/RX units that are less fade-sensitive. You can link 10-15 4G LTE feeds together and get a great H.264 signal, as well as IFB and camera tally signals back and forth from the control room to the remote site. It's really catching on, traditional KU satellite uplinks are starting to be left in the dust for localized, in-town news remotes.
