Hi All,

I've been working on my home screening room for some time now, and I'm quite happy with the results so far. I'm running 35mm film (Century SAW, overkill xenon (~3kW) with a three-blade shutter, Dolby Stereo SR/A and DTS), and digital content (Sony G70 CRT projector operating happily in HD).

My current problem is the screen. Thus far I've been using a large retractable screen, 12' wide and about 6' 9" tall, with a terribly distracting horizontal seam line running the full width of the image near the bottom third of the frame. Right now 16:9 digital content and 1.85:1 film content fit decently, but my ultimate goal is constant-height 2.39:1 scope as well. That is, keep the 6' 9" height, but go to a screen that is, say, about 16 feet wide.

I'd ideally like a flat framed screen, roughly 16' wide by 6' 9" tall, with reasonably wide edge masking. No fancy moveable masking required. Screen gain should be close to unity, since the room lighting is well-controlled and projector illumination is more than adequate. Speakers are positioned around the screen, so no perforations either.

I've looked around at the Harkness Smart View and Stewart Wallscreen varieties, and they look to be about what I'm looking for, if of course they can make a custom size without much trouble.

Any suggestions for a reasonably priced screen meeting this criteria, or should I be considering something else?

Check out Seymour AV. They have a nifty low-cost system for the masking, in which the masking panels are simply fixed to the screen frame using magnets.

Wow, they have some wonderful solutions! I wasn't familiar with Seymour AV, so thanks for that!

It looks like their Premier frame is available beyond the size I'd need. With only continuous horizontal beams available though, shipping might get interesting! I have a feeling it will be anyway though.

They're top on my list at the moment, but I'd appreciate any further recommendations before I make my decision!
